RECARO unveils next-generation R4 premium seat for Boeing 787 cabins

RECARO Aircraft Seating has unveiled the R4, its next-generation premium-class seat for long-haul cabins, with ETSO certification already secured for the Boeing 787. Deliveries began in June and entry into service is expected later in 2026, positioning the product for airlines assessing premium-economy and other differentiated cabin options on widebody fleets.

The R4 succeeds the PL3530 premium-economy seat, which entered service in 2015. RECARO has kept the design focused on passenger comfort and airline configurability, with a 16-inch monitor, a six-way adjustable headrest with integrated neck support, side ambient lighting, privacy wings with integrated reading lights and several power options for onboard connectivity.

The seat also includes a side console with dedicated access for passengers with reduced mobility, plus an extra-wide single-plate tray table with a soft open-and-close mechanism and an integrated device holder. Airlines can tailor colours, trim and finishes to match cabin branding, while further certifications remain in progress beyond the Boeing 787 programme.
