Security staff at Amsterdam Schiphol will stage a series of brief 15-minute work stoppages on Tuesday and Wednesday, raising the risk of longer queues at airport security checks during a busy late-summer travel period. The action involves staff employed by Trigion, I-SEC and Securitas, with passengers warned that screening lanes may close temporarily and waiting times may lengthen.
The stoppages follow an expired ultimatum from unions CNV and FNV, which have pressed for changes over workload, rostering, break schedules, recovery time, heat protection and staffing levels. Schiphol is monitoring the situation continuously and is seeking to keep disruption as limited as possible, but the exact impact is likely to vary by checkpoint and time of day.
The dispute comes after earlier tensions at the airport, including sickness-related protests in May and criticism of the new security structure introduced after Schiphol cut the number of security providers from five to three. CNV has warned that longer strikes could follow if employers do not make firm commitments on the outstanding issues.
