Air Cairo will turn Hurghada into a small connecting hub from 25 October, using Airbus A320s and Embraer E190s to link feeder traffic from German-speaking cities, Vienna and Zurich with onward flights to Zanzibar, Nairobi, Mombasa, Jeddah and Medina. The Red Sea airport, long used mainly for point-to-point leisure traffic, will gain through-connection capability for passengers who can check baggage onward without entering Egypt.
The first wave of services starts with two daily flights to Jeddah and five weekly flights to Medina. Zanzibar follows on 27 October with six weekly frequencies, while Nairobi begins on 20 December with three weekly services and Mombasa on 25 December with two weekly flights. The structure is designed to combine demand from Basel, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich, Stuttgart, Vienna and Zurich into a single connection point.
Hurghada’s transit area allows international transfer passengers to remain airside, simplifying the journey for the new schedule. The move gives Air Cairo a more hub-like operating model at a tourism-focused airport and expands its network into East Africa and Saudi Arabia through narrowbody and regional jet capacity.
