Lion Air to build MRO and training centre at Nusantara aviation hub

Lion Group plans to develop a 30-hectare maintenance and training complex near Nusantara International Airport in East Kalimantan, with PT Batam Aero Teknik leading the project for aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul and flight-training activities. The scheme follows a cooperation agreement involving the Nusantara Capital Authority and the Land Bank Agency and is aimed at creating an aviation support base for Indonesia’s new capital.

The proposed site around the IKN VVIP airport area has been identified as suitable because of its runway size and wider aviation potential. The project has evolved from an earlier training-centre concept into a broader MRO facility, making it more than a standalone school or hangar development. It would combine skills training with maintenance capability in one location.

If developed, the complex could help expand maintenance capacity and training infrastructure while improving supply-chain efficiency and air logistics for eastern Indonesia. Available reporting does not provide the investment value, construction timetable or final approval status for the plan.
