Sundair launched direct flights between Berlin Brandenburg Airport and Damascus International Airport on Saturday, operating an Airbus A320 on the first service in the route’s restart after about 14 years. The twice-weekly connection, planned for Tuesdays and Saturdays, restores a nonstop link between the German capital region and Syria for the first time since 2011.
The route became possible after Germany and Syria concluded a bilateral air transport agreement in mid-July, clearing the legal framework for scheduled services. A Syrian chargé d’affaires in Berlin attended the inaugural departure, underscoring the political sensitivity surrounding the reopening of the market.
The new service adds a rare scheduled Europe–Syria passenger link and places Sundair among the first German carriers to resume regular flying to Damascus. Flight timings for the route place the Berlin departure at 11:00 and the Damascus return at 17:05 local time, with the eastbound leg arriving in Syria at 16:05.
