Fort Wayne International Airport has completed Project Gateway, a multi-year modernisation of its terminal and landside facilities, with a ribbon-cutting marking the finish of the East Terminal expansion and renovation. The programme, led by the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority, brings to a close the airport’s broader terminal rebuild and prepares the facility for future passenger growth.
The completed work spans parking lot rehabilitation, an expanded rental car return canopy, a solar energy installation, apron improvements and terminal expansion. Inside the building, the project added expanded ticketing and baggage-handling areas, new gates and passenger boarding bridges, a children’s play area, sensory and mother’s rooms, accessibility upgrades, a frequent flyer lounge and building-system improvements.
The East Terminal completion follows the West Terminal work finished in 2023, ending the phased overhaul that transformed both sides of the terminal. Airport officials have positioned the changes around improved passenger flow, safety and operating efficiency as traffic at Fort Wayne continues to grow. The project also adds operational flexibility on the airside and landside, supporting the airport’s longer-term development plans.
