Avolon has agreed a sale-and-leaseback transaction with Akasa Air for up to seven Boeing 737-8200 aircraft, extending the lessor’s relationship with India’s newest budget carrier. The aircraft will support Akasa’s fleet growth and network expansion as it builds capacity in one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets.
The Dublin-based lessor described the 737-8200 as the highest-capacity version of the 737-8 MAX, with improved operating economics and lower fuel use and emissions than previous-generation narrowbodies. Akasa, which has made fleet expansion central to its growth strategy, referred to the deal as its third transaction with Avolon.
The terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The latest transaction adds another tranche of efficient single-aisle capacity to Akasa’s orderbook and underlines continued financing activity in India’s domestic market, where carriers are seeking aircraft that can support growth while keeping operating costs in check.
