Iberia is operating a special Airbus A321XLR flight for the total solar eclipse on 12 August 2026, with the event set to be livestreamed from the aircraft on the airline’s social channels. The flight will cruise at about 10,000 metres along or near the path of totality, turning the eclipse into a live airborne viewing and streaming operation.
The eclipse is visible in totality from parts of Greenland, Iceland, northern Spain and the Arctic, while much of Europe will see only a partial eclipse. Iberia’s operation combines commercial aviation, passenger experience and live scientific observation, with connectivity reportedly supported by Starlink to distribute the stream across platforms including Instagram, X, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube.
The special flight has drawn wider attention because it links a long-range narrowbody mission with a high-profile astronomical event. The A321XLR is designed for extended sectors, and the eclipse routing adds a media and branding dimension to the airline’s schedule, while also giving viewers on the ground a rare in-flight perspective on the phenomenon.
