airBaltic is reducing its Airbus A220-300 fleet from 54 aircraft to about 36 by the end of 2026 under a new business plan centred on financial stability and a tighter network focus. The Latvian carrier will later rebuild to around 40 aircraft by 2031, reversing its earlier growth ambition of a fleet of about 100 jets.
The revision comes as the airline prioritises cash preservation, more selective capacity deployment and expanded ACMI activity. Riga remains the main hub, while the wider restructuring is aimed at adapting to weaker growth expectations, high costs and operational constraints linked to engines and geopolitics.
The fleet cut is part of a broader recapitalisation effort that includes interim financing and new equity. Scheduled flights are not expected to be affected, and the airline is keeping its core route structure in place as it reshapes the business around a smaller operating base.
