Southwest adds Royal Caribbean and Rocket CEOs to board

Southwest Airlines appointed Jason Liberty and Varun Krishna to its Board of Directors on 10 August 2026, bringing in two outside chief executives with experience in travel, technology and financial leadership. The appointments took effect immediately and expand the Dallas-based carrier’s board as it continues to pursue strategic priorities and shareholder value.

Liberty is chairman and chief executive of Royal Caribbean Group, while Krishna leads Rocket Companies. Bob Jordan, Southwest’s president, chief executive and vice-chairman, welcomed the pair’s arrival, highlighting their backgrounds in public-company leadership, digital innovation and commercial strategy.

The move also broadens the board’s exposure to leisure travel and consumer technology at a time when airlines are leaning more heavily on data, digital distribution and network optimisation to drive margins. The additions come as Southwest works to sharpen its commercial execution and oversight through a wider mix of industry and corporate experience.
