Delta Boeing 757 evacuated in Atlanta after cockpit fumes prompt emergency return

Delta Air Lines Flight 2204 returned to Atlanta on Saturday after the crew reported smoke or fumes in the flight deck shortly after departure for Orlando. The Boeing 757-200 landed safely at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where passengers and crew evacuated on emergency slides on a taxiway.

The flight carried 199 passengers and six crew members. Emergency responders met the aircraft after landing, and one passenger and one crew member later sought medical attention, although the extent of any injuries was not immediately clear.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident. Delta arranged a replacement aircraft to complete the journey to Orlando and apologised to customers affected by the disruption.
