Delta Air Lines evacuated passengers from a Boeing 757-200 at Atlanta after the Orlando-bound jet returned to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport shortly after takeoff on 8 August. Flight 2204 carried 199 passengers and six crew members when the crew declared an emergency following reports of fumes in the cockpit, prompting the aircraft to stop on a taxiway and deploy emergency slides.
The return was completed safely, and the airline transferred passengers to another flight to Orlando. First responders met the aircraft on arrival, and the jet was later scheduled for maintenance inspection to determine the source of the fumes.
