The U.S. Senate has confirmed David Cummins as administrator of the Transportation Security Administration, placing the Serco senior vice president in charge of security operations at more than 430 airports across the country. TSA said Cummins was sworn in on Friday as the agency’s eighth administrator after his nomination by President Donald Trump in May.
The confirmation gives the Trump administration a formal head for the agency at a time when it is advancing plans to expand private screening at smaller airports. Reuters reported that Cummins was approved alongside dozens of other nominees in a 51-47 vote, underlining the personnel move as part of a broader round of federal confirmations.
The appointment drew immediate backing from industry groups. Airports Council International – North America welcomed the new administrator and expressed interest in working with TSA on performance-based, technology-led improvements to security and efficiency. Airlines for America also supported the confirmation, pointing to strong travel demand, growing air-cargo dependence and preparations for major events including the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
