InterGlobe Aviation, the parent of IndiGo, is in early talks with Embraer over a potential order for dozens of E2 regional jets, in a move that could reshape the carrier’s domestic and regional fleet strategy in India. The discussions remain preliminary and no agreement has been signed, but the prospective deal would be Embraer’s biggest in the Indian market and could be worth billions of dollars before discounts.
The aircraft under consideration could replace part of IndiGo’s ATR turboprop fleet and add capacity on thinner regional routes. IndiGo had 46 ATR aircraft in service in March, and a larger E2 order would give the airline a more efficient jet option for short-haul operations. For Embraer, a sizeable IndiGo commitment would be strategically important in India, where the Brazilian manufacturer has long viewed the market as a possible entry point for the E2 family.
Embraer has previously indicated that an Indian assembly facility would depend on demand at scale, including at least 200 E175 orders. A large IndiGo purchase would therefore carry significance beyond the airline’s own fleet plan, strengthening Embraer’s position in one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets.
