Air France-KLM has lengthened the amortisation period for its Airbus A320neo, A321neo and A350 aircraft, along with Boeing 787s, from 20 years to 25 years. The revision reflects a new view of the likely service life of the group’s latest-generation fleet and reduced depreciation expense by €24 million in the first half of 2026.
The change affects aircraft used across the Air France-KLM network and comes through an accounting reassessment rather than a fleet expansion or delivery programme. The group now expects the types covered by the revision to remain in service for 25 years, extending the period over which their cost is written down.
The adjustment was disclosed in first-half 2026 reporting published on 1 August and comes as airlines continue to balance higher capital intensity with longer expected utilisation of new-generation narrowbody and long-haul aircraft. For Air France-KLM, the updated depreciation profile will support reported earnings in the near term while signalling confidence in the durability of its A320neo family, A350 and 787 fleet.
