MHI and IHI report strong first-quarter aerospace results

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and IHI reported stronger first-quarter FY2026 results, supported by solid aerospace demand in civil aero engines, space and defence work. Both Japanese industrial groups lifted full-year outlooks after the three months to the end of June, with MHI also citing higher orders, revenue and profit alongside a record backlog.

MHI’s Aero Engine, Space and Defense division was a key driver of the improvement, reflecting steady demand across civil engines and defence programmes. The Tokyo-based group raised guidance for orders received, revenue, operating profit and profit attributable to owners of the parent after the quarter.

IHI also pointed to robust civil aero-engine demand and a strong start to the year in related businesses. The results underline the continuing strength of Japan’s aerospace supply chain, where engine work and defence activity remain major earnings contributors. ShinMaywa was included in the broader reporting cluster, but its first-quarter figures were not confirmed in the accessible primary material used here.
