Emirates Engineering has launched Material Futures Studio, a six-week programme for university students to reimagine retired aircraft materials and turn them into new products. The initiative, announced on 30 July 2026 in Dubai, brings together students and aviation professionals under the Upcycling department within Emirates Engineering and is intended to bridge academia and industry while giving participants practical engineering exposure.
The first edition includes 23 students from Khalifa University, Emirates Aviation University and the University of Sharjah. Emirates said the programme began with an orientation and a tour of Emirates Engineering facilities, including maintenance operations such as A-checks and C-checks on the Emirates fleet.
Students also visited the upcycling shop, where materials are already being repurposed. Over the next six weeks, they will develop concepts to upcycle and reuse aircraft materials into innovative products. Emirates said the initiative is also designed to engage future talent and generate ideas that could support innovation in aircraft-material reuse.
