Gulfstream said on 30 July 2026 that its G700 has reclaimed the Los Angeles to Farnborough city-pair speed record, covering the 4,740-nautical-mile sector in 8 hours 27 minutes. The result beat Bombardier’s recent mark by 19 minutes and restored the record to Gulfstream in a closely watched business-aviation speed contest between two ultra-long-range flagship jets.
Bombardier had only taken the record on 20 July 2026, when its Global 8000 flew the same route in 8 hours 46 minutes ahead of the Farnborough International Airshow. The new reversal came within roughly 10 days and gave Gulfstream a trip that was 3.6% faster than Bombardier’s earlier run.
The route from Los Angeles Airport to Farnborough Airport has become a clear benchmark for manufacturers promoting performance credentials through city-pair records. The Bombardier flight was described as having taken place in unfavorable tailwind conditions, underlining how publicised demo flights can shift quickly in this market.
The competition also highlights a contrast between published specifications and real-world performance. Bombardier’s Global 8000 has the higher published top speed on paper, but Gulfstream now claims the faster city-pair result on this sector.
