CFM International has passed the Preliminary Design Review for its RISE open-fan engine, validating the compact core, open-fan, and outlet guide vanes after approximately 500 test campaigns and over 3,000 endurance cycles. This milestone, announced 18 July 2026 ahead of Farnborough, confirms the architecture can deliver the targeted 20% reduction in fuel burn and CO₂ emissions while meeting durability requirements for operational reliability. First full fan system tests will commence by year-end 2026 or early 2027, with a product-representative demonstrator planned to fly aboard a modified Airbus A380 around 2029. Service entry is targeted for the mid-2030s, contingent on airframer schedules for a next-generation narrowbody, as the engine is not designed for existing aircraft retrofits.
