Boeing Forecasts $4.9 Trillion Commercial Aviation Services Market Through 2045

Boeing projects the global commercial aviation support and services market will reach $4.9 trillion over the 20-year period from 2026 to 2045, driven by an 80% fleet expansion to more than 50,000 airplanes. This Services Market Outlook, released at the Farnborough Airshow on 18 July 2026, identifies digitalization, sustainability initiatives, and workforce attrition as primary growth drivers. The sector simultaneously faces a critical personnel gap, requiring 2.4 million new professionals: 674,000 pilots, 728,000 maintenance technicians, and 1,023,000 cabin crew. Two-thirds of this demand stems from retirements, while one-third supports fleet growth. Operators must accelerate training infrastructure and recruitment to prevent operational bottlenecks as passenger traffic doubles and air cargo grows 3.7% annually, outpacing global trade.
