Riyadh Air studies firm order for 25–30 additional Boeing 787-9s

Riyadh Air is studying a firm order for 25–30 additional Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, likely by exercising most of its existing contractual options with Boeing. The potential deal would convert the majority of the 33 options from its 2023 agreement, lifting its firm 787 commitment to 64–69 aircraft while leaving up to eight options unconverted. Discussions remain ongoing with no finalized agreement; the exact quantity and timing are unconfirmed ahead of a possible announcement at the Farnborough International Airshow starting 20 July 2026. This expansion follows receipt of the first two factory-fresh 787-9s on 5 June 2026 and the launch of scheduled service to London Heathrow on 1 July 2026. The move validates Boeing’s wide-body production progress amid persistent headwinds and signals Riyadh Air’s ambition to establish Riyadh as a global hub competing with Emirates and Qatar Airways.
