Lufthansa Cargo completes acquisition of LUG aircargo handling

Lufthansa Cargo has completed its acquisition of LUG aircargo handling GmbH after securing the required antitrust approvals, making the German cargo handler wholly owned by the airline. The deal adds handling capacity at Frankfurt, Munich and Hamburg, while LUG will continue operating as a separate company under its own brand. Its existing customer contracts will remain in place, and it will continue handling cargo for other airlines.

Lufthansa Cargo signed the purchase agreement with LUG’s former owner, Dettmer Group, on 7 September. The purchase price was not disclosed. LUG provides around 50,000 sq m of covered warehouse space, alongside 18,000 sq m of office and infrastructure space, according to aviation industry reports.

The additional capacity complements Lufthansa Cargo’s infrastructure in Germany, including its LCCevo modernisation programme at Frankfurt, backed by investment of around €600 million. The acquisition gives the cargo carrier more flexibility in its home market while preserving LUG’s existing third-party handling business.
