New wave of bomb threats disrupts European flights

Airlines and authorities across Europe reported a new series of bomb threats on Thursday, prompting diversions, escorted landings and security checks. Aer Lingus, Ryanair, Finnair, LOT and Wizz Air were among the operators affected, with incidents reported in France, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Italy, Austria and Poland. No threat had immediately been confirmed as genuine, but investigations and precautionary measures were continuing in some cases.

Aer Lingus flight EI402 from Dublin to Rome diverted to Évreux in France and landed safely. Bulgarian officials reported threats involving three Ryanair flights bound for Bulgaria: two landed in Sofia and one diverted to Plovdiv. Czech police said four aircraft heading to Prague had received threats, which they assessed as low credibility.

Finnair reported threats involving flights from Helsinki to Rome and Vienna. LOT faced a security warning on its Warsaw–Brussels service, while a separate flight bound for Paris was stopped during taxiing for take-off. The reports did not establish a final total of affected flights.

The alerts came after a separate series on Tuesday, when at least seven flights and a cruise ship received threats. No country had attributed responsibility for the incidents. The latest reports prompted further operational disruption and security responses, but did not establish whether the threats were connected.
