Greece Orders Three Embraer KC-390s, With Options for Three More

Greece’s Ministry of National Defense has signed a contract for three Embraer KC-390 Millennium tanker-transport aircraft, with options for three additional aircraft. The purchase is being made under a government-to-government agreement between Greece and Portugal. The Hellenic Air Force is scheduled to receive its first KC-390 in 2027, although no delivery timetable for the other two aircraft has been disclosed.

The acquisition is intended to expand Greece’s airlift and air-to-air refuelling capabilities and improve interoperability with NATO and allied forces. The KC-390 can operate as a tanker or receiver when fitted with quick-installation refuelling equipment.

The aircraft is also configured for cargo and troop transport, airdrops, medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting and humanitarian missions. The contract value has not been disclosed.

Greece is the seventh European country to select the KC-390, after Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic and Sweden.
