GE Aerospace has received orders for eight LM2500 marine gas turbines to power the U.S. Navy’s next two Arleigh Burke-class Flight III destroyers, the future USS Ray Mabus (DDG 147) and USS Robert R. Ingram (DDG 149). Each ship uses four engines. The order extends GE’s role as propulsion provider for the destroyer class; no contract value, delivery schedule or shipbuilder was disclosed.
The Flight III ships are the latest version of the Navy’s guided-missile destroyers. GE reports that 75 Arleigh Burke-class vessels were active in April 2026 and that the Navy has taken delivery of more than 700 LM2500 turbines. The company also projects demand for the shipbuilding programme through 2056.
The LM2500 entered naval service in 1969. GE did not identify the contracting office or specify when the engines are due for delivery.
