Greece signs for three Embraer KC-390s, with option for three more

Greece’s Ministry of National Defense has signed a contract with Embraer for three KC-390 Millennium aircraft, with options for a further three. Structured as a government-to-government agreement between Greece and Portugal, the order will give the Hellenic Air Force additional airlift and air-to-air refuelling capacity. Its first aircraft is expected in 2027; no dates have been specified for subsequent deliveries.

The KC-390s are intended to improve interoperability with NATO and allied forces. Greece will also draw on European cooperation for training, support and logistics under the arrangement. The contract value has not been disclosed.

Greece becomes the seventh European country to select the type, after Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic and Sweden. The KC-390 can be configured as either an aerial tanker or a receiver for in-flight refuelling. Embraer also lists cargo and troop transport, airdrops, medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting and humanitarian missions among the aircraft’s roles.
