Italian CH-47 Chinook crash in Bosnia kills four

An Italian Boeing CH-47 Chinook operating with the European Union Force in Bosnia and Herzegovina crashed during routine training near Brčko on 29 October, killing four people and injuring 11. The wreckage was found in the Gorice area. EUFOR reported that the injured were in stable condition and receiving treatment, and that no civilians were hurt or civilian property damaged. The cause had not been established.

EUFOR is conducting an investigation into the crash and said further information would be released when verified. The aircraft was serving with Operation Althea, the EU’s peacekeeping mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The force took over from NATO in 2004 and is responsible for helping maintain security and overseeing the military provisions of the peace agreement that ended the 1992–95 war.
