Zambia Airways has appointed Aman Wole Gurmu as chief executive officer, effective 1 August 2026, as the carrier continues to build out its network and management structure. Gurmu joins from Ethiopian Airlines Group, where he spent more than 19 years in aviation leadership roles spanning sales, regional management and international market development.
His previous assignments included responsibility for Mainland China and Mongolia, France and the Maghreb, as well as sales leadership in Addis Ababa and area management for Zambia. The move extends a run of Ethiopian Airlines-linked leadership at Zambia Airways, which resumed operations in December 2021 and has relied on executives with experience from the Ethiopian group since then.
Zambia Airways has described the change as the start of a new phase of leadership under Gurmu, who replaces Thomas Gabreyohannes Woldesenbet. Ethiopian Airlines Group holds a 45% stake in Zambia Airways under the current shareholder structure, underlining the close operational link between the two airlines.
