NetJets flight EJA803, a Cessna Citation Longitude, made a controlled nose-gear-up landing at Akron-Canton Airport in Ohio on 18 August after its nose landing gear failed to extend. The two pilots on board were uninjured, while the aircraft sustained damage to its nose and underside.
The jet, registered N803QS, had departed Washington Dulles and was inbound to Akron-Canton when the crew encountered the gear problem. They tried troubleshooting and alternate extension procedures before choosing to land on the main gear and hold the nose off the runway as long as possible. Video from the scene showed the aircraft settling onto the nose as it slowed.
Airport emergency crews were staged at the airport, along with responders from the City of Green Fire Division. The runway was closed temporarily before operations resumed later in the day. The FAA and the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating the malfunction, which remains undetermined.
