United Airlines has named the first international routes for its new Airbus A321XLR, with the long-range narrowbody due to enter overseas service on 1 December 2026. The aircraft will initially fly from Washington Dulles to Amsterdam and Dublin, before United extends the type onto five more Europe routes in 2027, including Luxembourg, Toulouse, Ibiza, Valencia and Marseille.
The airline unveiled the network plan at Newark Liberty International Airport, linking the A321XLR introduction to a wider international expansion. United is positioning the aircraft for thinner long-haul markets that are difficult to serve efficiently with larger widebodies, while keeping its transatlantic schedule flexible enough to add routes that can support sustained but not necessarily high-volume demand.
Tickets for the first international A321XLR services go on sale on 27 August 2026. United plans to place the aircraft on select domestic routes before it begins overseas operations, with the wider 2027 expansion expected to cover 10 international destinations across Europe and Asia.
