TAAG Angola Airlines has moved two adult lions from Johannesburg to Lagos on a cargo service routed via Luanda’s Dr. António Agostinho Neto Airport. The shipment used a TAAG Cargo Boeing 737-800F and was handled as a specialist live-animal transport operation, with wildlife experts overseeing the journey and international transport rules applied throughout.
Each lion weighed about 200 kilograms, and the destination was a zoological facility in Lagos equipped for big cats with veterinary care and dedicated enclosures. The move underscores the carrier’s ability to manage complex special-load cargo, using its Angola-based freighter network to link Johannesburg and Lagos through Luanda. TAAG has been building out its cargo operations from the new Luanda airport, where it already serves regional African destinations with freighter capacity.
