Spain’s Council of Ministers has authorised the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to tender a €27.9 million contract for ENAIRE to modernise the country’s air traffic control system with SACTA-iTEC 5.01. The 36-month project covers the second phase of integrating ENAIRE’s automated air navigation platform and is designed to strengthen operational performance across Spain’s national control infrastructure.
The upgrade will introduce new operational features, including 4D trajectory management, enhanced conflict detection and improved planning tools. It is also intended to support better data exploitation, reinforce safety functions and keep the system aligned with current European regulatory requirements.
ENAIRE plans to roll out the new version across its control centres as part of a broader technology refresh running through 2029. The government values the contract at €27,891,243.02 before VAT, underlining the scale of investment in Spain’s air traffic management network as the sector moves towards more advanced digital and collaborative systems.
