SITA outlines migration plan as CUSS 2 transition nears end-2026 cutover

SITA has set out guidance for airports, airlines and technology vendors preparing for the shift to Common Use Self-Service 2, with the industry cutover expected to begin at the end of 2026. The framework centres on a phased migration from the older common-use platform to a newer, more secure and web-native architecture, while existing airline applications remain operational during the transition.

The company’s guidance, published on 29 September, aligns with IATA’s CUSS Task Force roadmap and highlights the need for early planning around testing, certification and operational dependencies. CUSS 1 is being deprecated, with no further updates or new functionality to be introduced on that version, meaning future development will move to CUSS 2.

SITA is urging airports and airlines to coordinate with internal teams and suppliers well before the cutover window opens. The migration is intended to avoid a hard switch-over, allowing mixed environments for a period as organisations validate readiness and complete certification work. The new platform is designed to support broader device compatibility and a more extensible self-service ecosystem across airport touchpoints.

The guidance places particular weight on structured preparation, including readiness workshops and integration planning, to reduce uncertainty across the passenger-processing chain. It positions CUSS 2 as the operational and technical baseline for future innovation in airport self-service, while legacy CUSS 1 deployments are wound down.
