Ryanair cuts 700,000 seats in Germany as Berlin base closes

Ryanair will cut around 700,000 seats from its German winter 2026/27 schedule, reducing capacity by about 10% and scaling back operations at Berlin-Brandenburg and other airports. The airline is closing its Berlin base on 24 October, withdrawing seven aircraft from the capital and ending service on 12 routes, while also exiting Bremen entirely.

The reductions come amid continuing tension over Germany’s aviation tax, airport charges and security and air navigation costs, which Ryanair argues make the market less competitive than other parts of Europe. Berlin is the hardest-hit airport, with the airline planning to halve its offer there and redeploy the aircraft to markets including Sweden, Italy, Poland and Ireland.

The Bremen withdrawal will further weaken domestic connectivity and remove another Ryanair presence from Germany’s regional airport network. The latest cuts come alongside smaller capacity changes elsewhere in the country, including a reduction in Hamburg, while some airports outside the main German hubs are set to gain capacity as Ryanair shifts aircraft to more favourable operating environments.
