Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency, Rosaviatsiya, has completed certification of the SO-114 icing detector for civil aircraft, including the Ilyushin Il-114-300. Developed by JSC OKB Aerospace Systems in the Dubna special economic zone, the system is approved for installation on applicable aircraft types and is intended to support operations in icing-prone regions such as the Arctic, Siberia and the Russian Far East.
The certification process, including qualification testing, lasted more than a year after the application was submitted in July 2025. Testing covered operation in a wind tunnel under simulated icing conditions, direct lightning exposure and vibration. Rosaviatsiya and specialists from the Russian Aviation Register took part in the assessment.
SO-114 detects ice forming on critical aircraft or helicopter surfaces and sends an icing warning to the aircraft’s anti-icing system. Its sensing element identifies ice accumulation through a reduction in resonant frequency. Rosaviatsiya certification official Ivan Tyurin presented the approval document to OKB Aerospace Systems executive director Alexander Kazakov.
The approval permits installation on aircraft of the applicable type, including the Il-114-300, but does not establish a production installation schedule or confirm that the system will be standard equipment across the fleet.
