Romania signs contract for 12 Airbus H225M helicopters

Romania has signed a contract for 12 Airbus H225M multirole military helicopters, with the aircraft to replace part of the Romanian Air Force’s IAR-330 Puma fleet for conventional and special operations. The agreement was concluded through France’s Directorate General of Armaments under the European Commission’s Security Action for Europe initiative.

The order is Romania’s second Airbus Helicopters deal under SAFE, following a separate purchase of seven H160s and five H145s for public services missions. Airbus did not disclose financial terms or delivery timing in the release.

The H225M is Airbus Helicopters’ long-range multirole platform used for military transport, search and rescue, and special operations. For Romania, the new fleet is part of a wider renewal effort in which the H225M will gradually take over missions now performed by the ageing Puma helicopters. The contract was signed in France, and the arrangement keeps procurement within the SAFE framework, which is designed to support European defence capability through joint purchasing.
