Ontic has acquired SIRS Navigation’s magnetic compass business, bringing a long-established supplier of standby compasses for legacy aircraft into its portfolio. The deal covers products used across commercial and business aviation, including fixed-wing aircraft and rotorcraft, and is aimed at preserving long-term support for operators that depend on continued parts availability.
SIRS Navigation has specialised in the design, manufacture and support of aviation magnetic compasses for more than 60 years. Its products are installed on a broad range of aircraft and are supplied both into OEM production lines and through the aftermarket, where replacement units and technical support remain critical for older platforms.
Ontic’s move fits a wider strategy of investing in niche aerospace businesses with established intellectual property and strong platform presence. The acquisition expands its role in obsolescence-prone components at a time when legacy-aircraft sustainment is increasingly shaped by consolidation among aftermarket suppliers. SIRS Navigation’s existing support network and customer base add depth to Ontic’s parts and services offering without changing the business’s focus on precision compass products.
