Norwegian plans to cut 123 jobs at its Copenhagen base, including 53 pilot positions and 70 cabin crew roles, as it reduces the number of aircraft based at the Danish airport by two. The dismissals are due to begin in January 2027. The airline says its flight offering from Copenhagen will be maintained, with some services operated by aircraft based in Spain.
Most of the affected employees are expected to leave at the end of January, with the remaining dismissals planned around ten months later. Norwegian has attributed the cuts to lower profits, but no further details of the financial decline were reported.
The Flyvebranchens Personale Union (FPU) objects to the change, arguing that replacing Danish staff with lower-cost Spanish workers would undermine Danish working conditions. That is the union’s characterisation of the staffing change; Norwegian’s stated explanation is lower profitability.
Norwegian was Copenhagen Airport’s second-largest airline by passenger share last year, accounting for 15%, and served 77 destinations from the airport. The reduction in locally based aircraft will therefore alter staffing and aircraft basing at a substantial part of its Copenhagen operation, while the airline plans to preserve its schedule through aircraft based elsewhere.
