Embraer and Mahindra Group have identified Nagpur in Maharashtra as the location for a potential final assembly line for the C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft, pending India’s selection of the jet for the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft programme. The plan would give Embraer a possible industrial base in India and open the way for local assembly if the government awards the contract.
The project remains conditional on the C-390 being chosen and an order being placed, with the companies working alongside the Maharashtra government on infrastructure and related preparations. The proposed site is expected to support aircraft assembly, systems integration, manufacturing engineering and local supply-chain development, while also creating scope for future maintenance, repair and overhaul activity.
The location decision follows a longer industry partnership between Embraer and Mahindra aimed at positioning the C-390 for India’s transport aircraft requirement. Maharashtra has already allocated land in Nagpur for the prospective facility, allowing the partners to move quickly if the programme proceeds, although no final investment decision, production timeline or capacity has been disclosed.
