Munich Airport has reopened its north runway after a Saturday incident involving a Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787 that forced a temporary closure and disrupted traffic at Germany’s busiest airport. The aircraft returned to Munich after the takeoff incident and remained on the runway before recovery crews cleared the area, allowing normal operations to resume on Sunday.
The closure pushed arriving and departing traffic onto the south runway while ground teams and the airport fire brigade dealt with the disabled jet. Early reports pointed to possible damage to runway lighting or the aircraft’s landing gear and tyres, although the exact cause was not immediately clear.
The runway’s return to service eased pressure on a dual-runway hub where even a short interruption can quickly affect capacity and scheduling. Minor delays were still possible overnight as operations normalised following the recovery work.
