Menzies tests AI-powered cargo handling at Heathrow

Menzies Aviation has begun a proof-of-concept trial of AI-powered cargo measurement and build-up technology at its Heathrow cargo operations with computer vision specialist CIND. The pilot uses CIND’s Dimensioner In-Motion system to measure freight as it moves through the warehouse, while a second tool, ContourCheck, is being tested during unit load device build-up to identify contour and overhang issues in real time.

The trial is designed to assess whether the technology can improve data quality, warehouse flow and operational decision-making before any wider deployment across Menzies’ cargo network. By reducing manual handling and input, the systems are intended to cut errors, support safer loading and help increase capacity use in unit load devices. The project also fits Menzies’ broader push on digitalisation and continuous improvement in cargo handling.

No performance results or rollout decision have been disclosed, and the Heathrow work remains at the evaluation stage.
