The site, which supports aerospace operations, has been idle for months while remediation and safety work continued. Melrose also set out a claims programme worth up to $100 million for residents and businesses affected by the disruption and related losses.
The incident involved an overheating chemical tank and triggered a major emergency response in late May. Orange County authorities later closed their criminal investigation without charges, and GKN Aerospace has permanently removed the tank involved while carrying out additional safety enhancements. The restart target remains tied to compliance with required safety standards, monitoring protocols, regulatory obligations and a court-approved safety plan.
