The U.S. Coast Guard is searching off Nantucket after losing contact with a Gulfstream G100 air ambulance carrying six people from Bermuda to Boston. The Canada-based Latitude Air Ambulance jet departed Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport and was due at Boston Logan International Airport, but contact was lost during the overnight flight.
The aircraft’s disappearance triggered a large air-and-surface response involving the Coast Guard, the FAA and Bermuda officials. Search crews have focused on waters south of Cape Cod after the jet vanished from radar near the end of its route. Officials have identified four Canadians and two Bermudian nationals among those on board, though reports differ on whether the six included two passengers and four crew or a patient, a family member and four crew.
Later updates confirmed debris from the aircraft was found off Nantucket, sharpening the search area and indicating a debris field in the water. The jet is understood to be a Canadian-registered Gulfstream G100 regularly used for medical transfers, a type of operation that draws close scrutiny when an incident occurs far from shore and on a cross-border route. Authorities had not provided a final outcome on those aboard or on the cause of the loss of contact by the latest updates.
