KLM Cityhopper has removed the last of four long-stored Embraer E195-E2 aircraft from Twente Airport, ending a storage period of more than two years. The aircraft, PH-NXE, has now left the Dutch site as KLM prepares the affected E2 fleet for return to service after inspections linked to the geared turbofan engine powder-material issue.
The four aircraft were parked in a cocoon at Twente while their engines underwent checks related to the global concern. Two E195-E2s are already flying again, while PH-NXD is in Bratislava for a deeper C-check before it can rejoin the fleet. KLM had originally expected more aircraft to be stored at Twente, but only four were ultimately parked there.
Twente remains part of KLM’s wider maintenance and asset-management plans. The airline still intends to send Boeing 737 aircraft there for dismantling and recycling in the coming years, keeping the airport relevant beyond the E2 return programme.
