Iberia puts Spanish cuisine at the centre of centenary plans

Iberia has teamed up with the Real Academia de Gastronomía to place Spanish cuisine at the heart of its 2027 centenary celebrations, with new food and beverage concepts planned for board service and premium lounges. The initiative is set to feature tastings, refreshed menus and seasonal snacks across the airline’s network and at its Madrid lounges.

The partnership is designed to showcase Spanish produce and culinary identity through onboard and ground-based customer touchpoints, with seafood preserves, garden vegetables and extra-virgin olive oil among the products likely to inspire some of the proposals. Iberia’s customer director, Beatriz Guillén, described gastronomy as part of the travel experience, while the academy’s president framed the agreement as a way to project Spanish cuisine inside and outside Spain.

The move sits within a broader centenary programme that Iberia is building around customer experience, special branding and institutional events. Other reported elements include a major gathering in June 2027 at La Muñoza, a special aircraft livery, cabin refurbishments, Starlink Wi-Fi and renewed onboard catering, positioning gastronomy as one strand of a wider anniversary strategy rather than a standalone product change.
