IATA, CANSO and ACI have launched a joint runway safety initiative to cut runway incursions across the airport system. The programme targets three operational weak points: sharper safety reporting and data capture, stronger local runway safety teams, and wider sharing of lessons learned so proven mitigations move faster across airports with similar operating profiles. The initiative extends GAPPRI and the ICAO Global Runway Safety Action Plan, then applies existing tools from the three bodies, including risk-assessment templates, runway safety checklists and local team support. No rollout timetable, funding package or performance target was disclosed.
