Hong Kong International Airport handled 5.62 million passengers in July 2026, up 8.4% from a year earlier, while cargo throughput fell 1.9% to 422,000 tonnes. Passenger growth was driven by stronger transfer and transit traffic, even as freight remained under pressure across key long-haul markets.
The airport’s monthly results point to continued recovery in travel demand during the summer period, with most geographic markets recording growth. Traffic from the Middle East continued to narrow its decline, while Southeast Asia and mainland China helped offset softer cargo demand from Europe and North America.
Over the first seven months of 2026, Hong Kong International Airport carried 38.4 million passengers, an 11.2% increase year on year, and aircraft movements rose 4% to 234,905. Within cargo, exports fell 8.4% in July, while imports and transshipments increased.
