Heart Aerospace is reviewing data from the first flight of its X-1 demonstrator before committing to further test sorties, after the battery-electric aircraft completed its maiden flight at Plattsburgh International Airport in upstate New York earlier this month. The 27-minute mission took the full-scale testbed to about 1,100 feet and used only battery power.
The X-1 is a development aircraft for Heart’s planned ES-30 regional airliner, not the production model itself. The company is using the demonstrator to validate propulsion and flight performance ahead of the next phase of development, while keeping the flight-test pace under review.
The cautious approach follows a milestone widely viewed as significant for large-scale electric aviation, since the aircraft flew at a scale relevant to commercial airline operations. Heart’s commercial target remains the 30-seat ES-30 hybrid-electric regional aircraft, with pre-production flight testing expected in 2028 and entry into service targeted for 2031.
