Hamburg Airport will install 22 new hybrid check-in counters as part of a €1.7 million upgrade to its terminal processing facilities in Hamburg, Germany. The project also includes a new multilingual boarding announcement system, expanding the airport’s flexible check-in capacity for airlines and passengers.
Fourteen of the hybrid counters will be placed in Terminal 1 and eight in Terminal 2. The desks can be operated either with airline staff or in a largely self-service mode, giving carriers more flexibility in how they manage passenger processing. Hamburg Airport already operates 30 fixed self-bag-drop units, and some baggage-handling systems will need to be modified to accommodate the new setup.
The new gate announcement system will support six languages: German, English, French, Italian, Turkish and Spanish. The investment is aimed at streamlining check-in and baggage handling rather than expanding routes or fleets, and it forms part of the airport’s broader operational modernisation.
