GKN Aerospace, Saab expand Gripen engine partnership

Saab and GKN Aerospace have signed an agreement to deepen cooperation on engine and propulsion systems for the Gripen E/F fighter programme in Sweden. The deal gives GKN Aerospace a larger role in engine-related work, including technical support, expertise and capacity, while extending an existing partnership that already covers Gripen C/D engines.

The agreement follows a recent Swedish government decision to strengthen national capability and expertise around the Gripen E/F engine. Saab said the arrangement creates the basis for GKN Aerospace to become its partner in engine-related matters for the programme, with the companies working to build the conditions needed for that role.

Johan Segertoft, head of Saab’s Gripen business unit, linked the move to Sweden’s domestic industrial capacity and fighter capability. The release did not disclose financial terms, a timetable or a workshare split.
